What’s New In Roku New Hardware And Its OS 8?

One year ago, Roku had added three streaming devices namely Roku Express, Roku ultra, and Roku premiere. At that time, its sale was totally swept by its rival company Google Chromecast due to its low-cost streaming device available with same features and functionalities. What’s new in hardware?

Roku has added a lot to its new hardware. Earlier if you want to purchase Roku express, then you need to spend $29 and if Express+, then $39 and the main feature that you were getting in it was the support for 1080p playback. In mid-range products, Roku Premiere and Premiere+ was the only option. Yes, if you want to purchase the high-end product, then Roku ultra was the only option and you need to spend $129 for it. It employs Dolby digital sound and voice remote feature.

1.   Roku express and express+: Though the price of both these models remains unchanged Roku has added some new functionalities to it. Roku Express supports HDMI connection whereas Roku Express+ supports HDMI as well as A/V. None of these support voice remote feature.

2.     Roku streaming stick: This is the replacement for Roku Premiere and costs $49. It has a quad-core processor with MIMO wireless AC dual band. You will get voice remote with it. The video resolution which it supports is 1080p.

3.    Roku streaming stick +: This is just a competitor of Google Chromecast ultra. It supports 4K and HDR videos. If we talk about its wireless range, then it is 4 times the normal streaming stick.

4.      Roku ultra: You can get this device as low as for $99 only which was earlier sold for $129. It has all the features and functions which are available on the Streaming stick +. Apart from this, there is an Ethernet port and microSD slot. If you love to listen to music privately, then there is a headphone jack on the remote.

What’s new in OS 8?

Roku has released the new OS version 8 for all its devices. You will find this update on Roku account setup page or on the update page. This update is mainly released with the view to provide support for over the air transmission. You can broadcast the content with the help of antenna. Apart from this, there is a new Roku search feature included in ‘over the air’ content.

Voice control is another highlighting feature of this update. You can use your voice inputs to control the switch input, local broadcast channel and streaming app. Besides this, you can install the Roku app on android, IOS platform. This will act as a voice remote.

Like Apple TV, Roku has also started single sign-in feature. With this, you don’t need to sign-in to the account again and again. Your cable provider credentials will be used every time to access the content from the Roku app. It has also changed the Roku4 Spotlight channel to make search easier on Roku device.
